Bilecik Mayor resigns from office
Bilecik Mayor Semih Şahin has resigned following his suspension in the wake of a bribery investigation into the Bilecik Municipality.
Semih Şahin, who had been suspended from his duties by the Ministry of Interior effective February 25, 2022, following a bribery investigation into the Bilecik Municipality, has resigned from his post.
Şahin, who was previously expelled from the CHP, submitted his resignation letter to the Bilecik Governorship.
Following his suspension, CHP member Melek Mızrak Subaşı had been serving as acting mayor. After Şahin's resignation, a mayoral election will be held in the Bilecik Municipal Council in the coming days.
