Birgün executives referred to courthouse: 'Targeting' accusation

Birgün Newspaper Publication Coordinators Uğur Koç and Berkant Gültekin, along with Managing Editor Yaşar Gökdemir, who were detained from their homes last night for reporting on Sabah Newspaper's visit to Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor Akın Gürlek, have been referred to the courthouse following their statements at the police station.

Detained on charges of "Targeting individuals involved in counter-terrorism efforts," Koç, Gültekin, and Gökdemir were first taken to the Istanbul Police Department's Vatan Campus to provide statements. Following the completion of their police statements and health checks, Uğur Koç, Berkant Gültekin, and Yaşar Gökdemir will be brought before the prosecutor.

'THERE WAS NO INTENT TO TARGET'

According to Birgün, the journalists stated in their police testimonies that there was no criminal element in the report and that they had no intention of targeting anyone. Koç, Gültekin, and Gökdemir pointed out that the visit had already been announced to the public through Sabah Newspaper's own report.
