Breaking News... 19 people had been detained: Arrest request in betting investigation!
The 19 suspects detained in the operation conducted as part of the investigation known in the public eye as "referees' membership in betting sites" have been referred to the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for arrest.
In the betting scandal brought to light by Turkish Football Federation (TFF) President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu, a total of 19 suspects, including Eyüpspor President Murat Özkaya and 17 referees, were referred to the courthouse today.
SENT TO COURT WITH ARREST REQUEST
All detained suspects were brought before the court with a request for arrest following their statements at the prosecutor's office.
The names for whom arrest was requested are as follows:
Murat Özkaya, Umut Eken, Ahmet Kıvanç Kader, Umut Kaptan, Nurullah Bayram, Arif Taşkın, Ufuk Tatlıcan, Baran Karaman, Batuhan Topçu, Bedirhan Efe Akdoğan, Yasin Şen, Yakup Yapıcı, Nevzat Okat, Şenol Bektaş, Sabri Emre Tekin, Miraç Yıldırım, Cihad Buyurgan, Mustafa Özel.
WHAT HAPPENED?
As part of the betting investigation announced by TFF President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu, simultaneous operations were conducted in 12 provinces on Friday, November 7; detention warrants were issued for 21 people, 17 of whom were referees. While 18 of the suspects were apprehended, it was determined that 2 people were abroad.
It was announced that journalist Umut Eken also returned from abroad and surrendered.
Among those detained were Eyüpspor President Murat Özkaya and former Kasımpaşa president Mehmet Fatih Saraç, and both were questioned on charges of "influencing the outcome of a match."
Mehmet Fatih Saraç was released on the same day following his interrogation.
