7 soldiers performing their national service at the İskenderun Naval Infantry Training Regiment Command were hospitalised on suspicion of poisoning.
The Ministry of National Defence announced that 2 soldiers were martyred and that an administrative investigation has been launched into the incident.
It was also reported that the health condition of the 5 soldiers still undergoing treatment is good.
The initial autopsy report on the martyred soldiers recorded that the cause of death was multiple organ failure due to fluid loss.
The statement issued by the Ministry of National Defence read as follows:
"On 25 July 2025, seven of our comrades-in-arms undergoing basic military training at the İskenderun Naval Infantry Training Regiment Command began receiving treatment at the Primary Care Examination Centre for complaints of high fever and were subsequently referred to hospital.
However, despite all interventions carried out at the hospital, our heroic comrades-in-arms Guard Private Hayrullah Halit Karaman and Supply Private Semih Erdoğan could not be saved and were martyred. The initial autopsy report determined that the cause of death was multiple organ failure caused by sodium levels in the blood resulting from severe fluid loss (dehydration).
The general health condition of our five comrades-in-arms who continue to receive treatment in hospital is good. An administrative investigation into the matter has been launched."
