Breaking news... Cumhuriyet Foundation Vice President Ali Sirmen has lost his life.
Cumhuriyet newspaper columnist, jurist, journalist, and actor Ali Sirmen has passed away at the age of 84.
The grandson of Turkish classical music composer and violinist Sadi Işılay, Ali Sirmen had been receiving treatment at a hospital in Istanbul for some time.
The funeral arrangements for Sirmen have not yet been shared.
WHO IS ALİ SİRMEN?
The grandson of Turkish classical music composer and violinist Sadi Işılay, Ali Sirmen was born in Istanbul on November 10, 1939.
A graduate of Galatasaray High School and Istanbul University Faculty of Law, Sirmen began his career as a columnist at Akşam newspaper in 1966.
He also wrote columns for the newspapers Yeni Ortam and Milliyet. He was involved in the establishment of the Peace Association (Barış Derneği) in 1972.
He portrayed a police commissioner from Antep in the television series İkinci Bahar. In the film Cumhuriyet, he brought to life Yunus Nadi Abalıoğlu, the founder of Cumhuriyet newspaper.
He was one of the hosts of the program titled Siyah-Beyaz on the SkyTürk channel. Additionally, he hosted the discussion program Ayıptır Söylemesi with Süheyl Batum on Cem TV.
In 2015, he was deemed worthy of the Burhan Felek Press Service Award by the Journalists Association of Turkey.
An author, cinema, and television actor, Sirmen also served as the vice president of the Cumhuriyet Foundation.
HE HAD CONTRACTED CORONAVIRUS
Ali Sirmen had contracted coronavirus on March 25, 2020. Sirmen, who was hospitalized, recovered from the coronavirus and regained his health on April 4, 2020.
