Breaking News... Constitutional Court decision from detained Murat Çalık: 'Legal remedies exhausted'

Beylikdüzü Mayor Mehmet Murat Çalık, who was arrested during operations targeting the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB), has released a statement on his social media account.

Having previously survived cancer twice, lost 21 kilograms in prison, and facing the risk of a relapse, Çalık was issued a report by the Council of Forensic Medicine stating there is "no obstacle to him remaining in prison." He will now file an individual application to the Constitutional Court.

"Today, I have reached a new stage in my life" said Çalık, "All domestic legal remedies in the process conducted against me have been exhausted, and my lawyers will file our individual application to the Constitutional Court today. This application is important not only for me, but for everyone seeking justice, for the right to life, and the right to a fair trial. Being kept in prison despite my health problems is a wound not only to me but also to the conscience of society." he stated.

Çalık continued his statement as follows:

"I sincerely believe that justice will eventually be served.

I have not lost hope, and I am continuing my struggle with determination to attain the freedom and justice that is my right.

I look forward to your prayers and support.

With love and respect,

Mehmet Murat Çalık"
