AFAD ANNOUNCED: IT SHOOK ONCE AGAIN WITH A 6.2 MAGNITUDE

Following the earthquake off the coast of Silivri, Istanbul experienced another strong tremor. According to the statement by AFAD, the magnitude of the earthquake was measured at 6.2. The earthquake was also felt in Bursa and Eskişehir.

The depth of the earthquake, which occurred at 12:13, was measured at 6.99 km. The earthquake was also felt in surrounding districts.

TWO MORE EARTHQUAKES WITH MAGNITUDES OF 4.9 AND 4.4

In the statement made by AFAD, an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.4 occurred off the coast of Büyükçekmece in the Sea of Marmara at 12:51.

PEOPLE TOOK TO THE STREETS

Following the earthquake, citizens across the city took to the streets. Citizens gathered in parks and open areas.

In Bağcılar, citizens came to the Bağcılar Millet Bahçesi (People's Garden) after the earthquake.

In Beşiktaş Bebek, citizens who were in nearby shops and cafes ran to the streets due to the impact of the earthquake. Citizens called their relatives with their mobile phones.

STATEMENT FROM ALİ YERLİKAYA

Minister of Interior Ali Yerlikaya stated on his social media account, "A 6.2 magnitude earthquake has occurred in the Sea of Marmara, Silivri, Istanbul. Regarding the earthquake, which was also felt in surrounding provinces, all teams from AFAD and our relevant institutions have begun field scans. I offer my best wishes to our citizens affected by the earthquake. May God protect our country and our nation from disasters."

INITIAL ASSESSMENT OF THE EARTHQUAKE

Geologist Prof. Dr. Okan Tüysüz, in his initial assessment of the earthquake, said, "It is a significant earthquake. It occurred in the region where we expect a major earthquake in Istanbul and on the North Anatolian Fault. It is not yet clear whether it is on the main branch or a side branch. The fault solution will be published within a few hours. This will shed significant light on the situation for us. We estimate that it is on the fault line expected to affect Istanbul."
