Breaking News... Surprise re-election and constitution statement from Erdoğan! He issued a call to the CHP

Speaking to journalists on the plane returning from Hungary, AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed the CHP regarding new constitution efforts, stating, "We do not want a new constitution for ourselves, but for our country. I have no concern about being re-elected or running for office again." Responding to the CHP's calls for early elections, Erdoğan said, "They go to bed and wake up saying 'early election.' I mean, what will happen if there is an early election? Will they come to power? The empty or full seats you currently have are enough for you. Use them to your heart's content."

Breaking News... Surprise re-election and constitution statement from Erdoğan! He issued a call to the CHP

AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan answered journalists' questions on the plane returning from his visit to Hungary.

Regarding the new constitution and candidacy debates, Erdoğan said, "We do not want a new constitution for ourselves, but for our country. I have no concern about being re-elected or running for office again."

Issuing a call to the Republican People's Party (CHP), Erdoğan stated the following:

"Turkey is changing, the world is changing. We are living in a new era, and we are moving toward an even newer one. In a world changing this rapidly, is it possible to get anywhere with a constitution from the old Turkey, prepared under the conditions of a coup, and which, no matter how many changes are made, still carries the traces of a coup-plotting mentality? Haven't we seen by living through it for 40 years how difficult it is to unite society with a constitution written by coup plotters? Is there anyone who doesn't know that the root of many of the problems we face today is the coup constitution?

Throughout my political life, I have expressed that Turkey needs a civil, democratic, and libertarian constitution. I am at the same point today. Turkey can no longer walk into the future with a constitution written and put forward by coup plotters. We now need a constitution put forward by civilians, not coup plotters. For this, we as the AK Party are working on it. We have also assigned tasks to some of our colleagues regarding this.

The whole issue is, will the Republican People's Party also embark on a journey with us to create a joint, common civil constitution? That is what is important. We say; let's join hands. Let's establish our commissions and, together with these commissions, create a civil constitution as soon as possible and present it to our nation. Let it be both national and local. I hope Turkey sees and experiences such a constitution. There is no reason for it not to happen.

There is no problem regarding the first four articles. That is, as the AK Party, we do not have such a problem, and almost all of the other political parties do not have such a problem either. Since there is no problem regarding the first four articles, we will only determine the roadmap. We can quickly form our delegations. We did such work during my time as Prime Minister; we can do it again, it won't take much of our time.

We do not want a new constitution for ourselves, but for our country. I have no concern about being re-elected or running for office again. Our concern is how we can raise our country's reputation with the steps we will take. Currently, Turkey's national income has reached a strong position, thank God. What were the figures when we took office, and where are the figures now?

"WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF THERE IS AN EARLY ELECTION? WILL THEY COME TO POWER?"

Erdoğan was reminded of CHP leader Özgür Özel's words: "If the number of empty seats in Parliament approaches 30, a by-election within the constitutional framework becomes inevitable."

Closing the doors to early elections, Erdoğan said:

"The CHP has never had any intention of fulfilling the duty given by the nation. After every election, or from their perspective, after every defeat, they start blowing the early election trumpet after some time passes. But this is the CHP. Remember, the CHP's early election issue is not a new thesis. They go to bed and wake up saying 'early election.' I mean, what will happen if there is an early election? Will they come to power? The empty or full seats you currently have are enough for you. Use them to your heart's content.

If they spent the time they wasted on early election calculations on serving the nation, they might find a way to win the nation's heart. Furthermore, what Mr. Özgür is talking about is not an early election, but another matter. This is not called an early election. This is called a by-election. One should not confuse the two. Moreover, looking at the current picture in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), there is no situation that requires a by-election. The nation sent the deputies to Parliament 2 years ago so that they would serve for 5 years.

On the other hand, they have voiced the early election in the sense that Mr. Özel understands many times until today. We will not, we cannot drag Turkey into such a predicament, and there is no need for it. Turkey is currently experiencing the most stable and powerful times in its history. We are on the eve of ending terrorism with a full spirit of unity. We are successfully conducting a total struggle against inflation. Thank God, our star is shining brighter in foreign policy. As the People's Alliance (Cumhur İttifakı), we will not allow these to be harmed for the sake of someone's whims."
