Breaking News: Esenyurt Municipality General Coordinator Ali Gökmen resigns
Following the arrest of Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer and the appointment of a trustee in his place, Esenyurt Municipality General Coordinator Ali Gökmen has announced his resignation from his post.
CHP Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer was arrested on allegations of being a "member of the PKK/KCK armed terrorist organization."
Following Özer's arrest, Istanbul Deputy Governor Can Aksoy was appointed as a trustee to the Esenyurt Municipality.
After the trustee decision, Esenyurt Municipality General Coordinator Ali Gökmen resigned from his position.

The written statement from Ali Gökmen, who resigned from his post, is as follows:
"Since 1950, they have tried to put the same plan into action every time they lose an election. They are trying to take back what they lost at the ballot box through the judiciary, and for this, they are trying to place a mortgage on the will of the nation. They want to reach the authority that the nation did not give them through politically motivated courts and trustees.
We have been in Esenyurt for years so that the love of brotherhood can overcome all evil. We are here to preserve solidarity, democracy, and the nation's right to choose, and we will continue to be here. Your trustee will also leave one day, and we will continue to struggle here together with the people of Esenyurt and serve our city.
They are on the side of conflict, polarization, fighting, and chaos. They are uncomfortable even with this nation waking up in peace for a single day or smiling at each other and saying 'good morning.' But we will not surrender to this. We will not allow Esenyurt to surrender to fear, oppression, and chaos. We will not stand by as our Republic and democracy are eroded, as a mortgage is placed on the will of our people, and as the trustee practice crushes the decision of our people.
They want to put the nation under pressure now to win the next election today. You will not be able to do it. They will be buried under this shameful practice they carry out under the guise of law.
Neither courts, nor bans, nor threats, nor conspiracies can stop us. Where the nation's word begins again and the nation's voice is heard again, the oppression of the powerful will end.
We accept the sovereignty of the nation unconditionally and say 'bring it on.' Without hiding behind politically motivated judicial decisions, without hoping for help from trustees, and without placing a mortgage on the clean and white votes and the will of our people, we say 'bring it on' once again, a thousand times again, to compete honorably!
There is no negotiation with a trustee..
There is only struggle with a trustee!
