Breaking News: First statement from Çetin Doğan following his release!

Çetin Doğan has been released from prison. Speaking after his release, Çetin Doğan stated, "There is talk of an amnesty on television. There is no question of an amnesty; it is simply the late fulfillment of a constitutional duty by the President."

Breaking News: First statement from Çetin Doğan following his release!

With a decision signed by AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and published in the Official Gazette, the sentences of Aydan Erol, Çevik Bir, Çetin Doğan, Fevzi Türkeri, Cevat Özkaynak, Yıldırım Türker, and Erol Özkasnak, who were convicted in the February 28 Case, have been commuted.

Following the decision, commander Çetin Doğan, a convict in the February 28 Case, was released from the prison where he was being held in Buca, İzmir.

"THERE IS NO AMNESTY, THE CONSTITUTIONAL REQUIREMENT WAS FULFILLED"

In his first statement upon leaving prison, Doğan said, "There is no question of an amnesty; the requirement of the constitution was fulfilled."

Speaking after his release, Doğan said the following:

"Justice is necessary for all of us. It is something that is required. I hope that from now on, such arbitrary detentions will come to an end. Let me also state that there is talk of an amnesty on television. There is no question of an amnesty; it is simply the late fulfillment of a constitutional duty by the President."
