Breaking News... First statement from Devlet Bahçeli regarding the Can Atalay meeting in the Turkish Parliament: A notable 'early election' message
MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, in a statement following the tumultuous Can Atalay session in the Turkish Parliament, said, "The Can Atalay issue is completely closed."
The Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) convened yesterday (August 16) at 2:00 PM for Can Atalay, a Hatay deputy from the Workers' Party of Turkey (TİP), regarding whom the Constitutional Court (AYM) had issued a ruling that the revocation of his parliamentary seat was "null and void."
AKP's Alpay Özalan attacked TİP Istanbul deputy Ahmet Şık. The session was adjourned 5 times due to the incidents that occurred in Parliament.
REJECTED BY MAJORITY VOTE
In the final session held after the tumultuous proceedings, the opposition's request for a general debate regarding Can Atalay was rejected by a majority vote.
BAHÇELİ'S STATEMENT ON CAN ATALAY
MHP Chairman Devlet Bahçeli, who did not attend the Can Atalay session in the TBMM, broke his silence following the events in Parliament.
In a statement on his social media account, Bahçeli included the phrase, "The Can Atalay issue is completely closed."
Bahçeli's post is as follows:
"The founding process of both the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and the Republic of Turkey, while witnessing arduous struggles, has also been a source of inspiration for societies or nations longing for independence. The heroism displayed and the sacrifices made during the National Struggle have undoubtedly provided spirit and hope to geographies suffering under the grip of captivity and exploitation.
The Turkish nation has resisted oppression in every period of history and has raised its voice and words against tyrants. Naturally, as the manifestation of the national will, the Grand National Assembly of Turkey has determinedly, and even with a consciousness of historical responsibility, undertaken the role of being the voice of our kinsmen and religious brothers who have been subjected to injustice and attack.
The magnificent address delivered by the President of the State of Palestine, Mr. Mahmoud Abbas, in the Veteran Parliament on August 15, 2024, must be evaluated within this context. On that day, the eyes of the world were turned to the Grand National Assembly of Turkey. The fact that a will and power that saved a homeland and founded a state embraced the Palestinian cause, and that Mr. Abbas's historic speech consequently had regional and global repercussions, is truly an important and exceptional development.
"THE TRAGIC AND UNFORTUNATE EVENTS THAT OCCURRED IN THE VETERAN PARLIAMENT ARE EXTREMELY SAD"
However, the tragic and unfortunate events that occurred one day later in the Veteran Parliament, which had become the center of political and diplomatic gravity for the world on August 15, 2024, and had drawn all attention to itself, unfortunately overshadowed the previous day.
This picture is extremely sad. The political provocation mechanism that wanted to take TİP's Can Atalay out of prison and bring him to Parliament, despite there being a finalized conviction against him, stirred up trouble with all its incitement and plotting.
The hateful, sharp words of a deputy from TİP, who is against the state and the nation and who distorted parliamentary immunity in a purposeful and morbid manner, raised tensions to the point of bloodshed. However, grace was born out of hardship, and dawn broke in the overshadowed Veteran Parliament.
"THE CONSTITUTIONAL COURT'S SLOPPY RULING ON RIGHTS VIOLATIONS HAS BEEN THROWN IN THE TRASH, AND LAWLESSNESS HAS NOT BEEN PERMITTED"
Indeed, the Can Atalay issue is completely closed. The mask of the 'DEM-ified' CHP has fallen once again. The Constitutional Court's sloppy ruling on rights violations, which established a process contrary to the Constitution and disregarded its own precedents, has been thrown in the trash by the will of the Turkish nation, and lawlessness has not been permitted.
"I WISH FOR IT TO BE KNOWN THAT THERE IS NO ELECTION ON TURKEY'S AGENDA"
The Nationalist Movement Party did not attend the parliamentary session where the Can Atalay issue, which was watered down from top to bottom and torn from its original context, was discussed. This was because it was desired that the clear exposure of what kind of scheme the 'DEM-ified' CHP, the marginalized TİP, the PKK apparatuses, and the Constitutional Court, which periodically takes decisions against Turkey and the Turkish nation, were the perpetrators of, be seen.
Furthermore, an important result that has manifested is this:
The AK Party, one of the founders of the People's Alliance, did what was necessary even without the Nationalist Movement Party, and with a commendable stance, did not allow injustice, lawlessness, and banditry. Those who asked 'where is the junior partner' got their answer, and a decision in line with our nation's expectations was taken even without us.
In addition to this, yesterday's vote once again pointed to and confirmed the AK Party as Turkey's leading party. Those who polished the 'DEM-ified' CHP after the March 31, 2024 Local Administration Elections, and those who constantly told the fairy tale of 'the leading party, far ahead in the polls,' have personally witnessed that black propaganda was wiped away with the Can Atalay decision.
I have full faith that the AK Party will continue its struggle with confident, strong, and self-assured steps, and will implement the necessary chain of reforms under the roof of the People's Alliance until the 2028 elections. I especially wish for it to be known that,
There is no election on Turkey's agenda. Everyone must make their political and ideological calculations in accordance with this unchangeable fact. To those who use expressions full of reproach against us by calling us the 'junior partner,' I say this: wherever the nation wants to see us, that is where we are. As the People's Alliance, we continue on our path with determination and faith."
