Breaking News... First statement from Erdal Beşikçioğlu following the operation at Etimesgut Municipality
Following allegations of irregularities identified during Court of Accounts audits, 4 people have been detained in an 'embezzlement' investigation targeting the CHP-run Etimesgut Municipality and its subsidiary, Etimkent A.Ş. Etimesgut Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu stated that the process is based on a criminal complaint previously filed by the municipality.
The Ankara West Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into 'embezzlement' charges regarding alleged irregularities identified in the accounts of Etimesgut Municipality and its subsidiary, Etimkent A.Ş., during Court of Accounts audits. Four people have been detained within the scope of the investigation.
In a statement from the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was reported that simultaneous search and seizure operations were carried out at the residences and workplaces of the suspects in accordance with search warrants obtained on March 30, 2026.
CHP Etimesgut Mayor Erdal Beşikçioğlu made a statement following the operation in which 4 people were detained.
Beşikçioğlu's press statement is as follows:
"It has been announced to the public that detention and search warrants have been issued regarding some of our employees working in our municipality's Social Assistance Affairs Directorate and at Etimkent A.Ş., a company whose capital is entirely owned by our municipality, within the scope of the investigation initiated by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
The matter is related to a criminal complaint previously filed by our municipality's inspection board inspectors, and there is no political situation that could be perceived as an operation being conducted against our municipality in any way. As a result of the investigation previously initiated by our municipality, one of the mentioned officials, S.K., had already been suspended from duty by our municipality, and the personnel in question were reported to the prosecutor's office by our municipality and our companies in the capacity of complainant on 11.09.2025.
The ongoing judicial proceedings are being closely monitored by our municipality. Detailed explanations regarding the process will be shared with the public by our municipality in a transparent manner."
