Breaking News: First statement from the DEM Party Imralı delegation after meeting with Figen Yüksekdağ: 'All martyrs and veterans are the honor of our country'
The DEM Party Imralı delegation met with Figen Yüksekdağ at the Kocaeli Kandıra Prison. Speaking on behalf of the delegation after the visit, DEM Party member Sırrı Süreyya Önder said, "All the martyrs and veterans who lost their lives or their health during this conflict process are the honor of our entire country. We all have a heavy responsibility and debt to them."
Following the call by MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli, the DEM Party delegation, which had previously met with terrorist leader Abdullah Öcalan in Imralı, visited Edirne Prison yesterday to meet with Selahattin Demirtaş after their rounds in the Turkish Grand National Assembly.
The delegation's stop today was Kocaeli Kandıra Prison.
The DEM Party delegation, which included Sırrı Süreyya Önder, Pervin Buldan, and former Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Türk—who was replaced by a government-appointed trustee—visited Figen Yüksekdağ and Semra Güzel there.
Following the meeting, Sırrı Süreyya Önder made statements to journalists on behalf of the delegation.
Önder's statements are as follows:
"Figen Yüksekdağ will make a statement regarding the process from her own account tomorrow. However, she wanted us to convey to you that she is waiting, ready to gladly fulfill whatever falls to them, right alongside the process."
I was released from this prison 5 years ago. We spoke here again. I say this for the following reason: This country has lost a significant amount of time over the last 10 years. The two things that are impossible to replace are the lives lost and time. All the martyrs and veterans who lost their lives or their health during this conflict process are the honor of our entire country. We all have a heavy responsibility and debt to them.
The greatest gift we can give them will be to end this conflict process and crown it with peace. Supporting everyone who is alive and being a comrade to the relatives left behind by those who lost their lives is a debt we all owe as a society. We are in this with such seriousness and sincerity. We are the ones who are in it the most.
Because we are the ones whose hearts are burning, who suffer firsthand, and who pay the price in this matter. We feel the pain of them all in our hearts and remember them with mercy.
As for peace, after underlining our debt to our martyrs and veterans, peace is something we must build by looking into the eyes of our children. Because the children of this country do not deserve a legacy of conflict in which they have no part. We must prepare and leave them a country in peace. There are many speculative discussions. Believe me, this is a language as harmful as weapons.
The country will be divided, dual flags, dual languages, etc... There is no such thing on our agenda, nor have we discussed it. There is no such thing. What we are trying to build is peace. We are ready to meet with everyone who has changed their mind on this issue, to explain the process, and to listen to their suggestions and criticisms. Both as a party and as a delegation. Our only request is that this toxic language be set aside."
