Breaking News: Former CHP mayor arrested
In a Bursa-based bribery and money laundering operation, 22 suspects, including former CHP mayor Turgay Erdem and his wife, were detained. The court ordered the arrest of 15 people, including Erdem, and imposed judicial control measures on 7 suspects. During the operation, assets were seized and a trustee was appointed to a company.
Within the scope of an investigation conducted by the Bursa Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into the crimes of "establishing and managing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes, being a member of an organization, bribery, and laundering assets derived from crime," a total of 22 suspects, including former CHP Nilüfer Mayor Turgay Erdem and his wife, were detained in simultaneous operations held in 3 provinces.
Following their procedures at the police station, 18 suspects were referred to the courthouse with a request for arrest, while 4 suspects were referred with a request for judicial control. The Bursa Duty Criminal Court of Peace ordered the arrest of 15 suspects, including former CHP Nilüfer Mayor Turgay Erdem, and imposed judicial control measures on 7 suspects.
During the searches conducted as part of the operation, cash, jewelry, real estate, vehicles, and bank and cryptocurrency accounts were seized. Additionally, a trustee was appointed to 1 company through the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund. While the arrested suspects were sent to prison, it was learned that efforts are ongoing to apprehend 1 fugitive suspect.
In a statement made by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was reported that the investigation is being conducted meticulously and that developments will be shared with the public.
