Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya announced on his social media account that former police chief Ü.Y., identified as a member of FETÖ and wanted for various crimes, has been captured in Ankara.

According to Minister Yerlikaya's statement, Ü.Y. served at the General Directorate of Security's Intelligence Department between 2008 and 2014 but was dismissed in 2016. The suspect, who had three separate arrest warrants, was reportedly named in investigations concerning the online dissemination of sexually explicit footage alleged to belong to former CHP Chairman Deniz Baykal and some politicians, as well as the illegal recording of audio and video and unauthorized wiretapping. It was also reported that he was wanted for forgery of official documents and misconduct in office.

Ü.Y., who was determined to have used FETÖ's encrypted messaging application ByLock, was captured in a secret compartment in the house where he was hiding, following coordinated efforts by the Ankara Provincial Police Department's Counter-Terrorism and Intelligence Branches.

Minister Yerlikaya congratulated the security forces who carried out the operation and emphasized that the fight against terrorism will continue with determination.
