As part of an investigation into alleged manipulation of Avrupa Yatırım Holding AŞ shares, 12 people, including former national football player Gökhan Gönül, have been detained; it was reported that 7 others are currently in prison.
Twelve people, including former national football player Gökhan Gönül, have been detained on allegations of manipulating Avrupa Yatırım Holding AŞ shares on Borsa Istanbul.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office stated the following in its announcement:
GÖKHAN GÖNÜL ALSO DETAINED
“Following findings that there were fluctuations in transaction volume and share prices of capital market instruments traded on the BIST (Borsa Istanbul) equity market that were contrary to the ordinary course of life, and that artificial increases caused losses for small investors; within the scope of the investigation initiated by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding 25 individuals who were determined to have engaged in manipulative actions in Avrupa Yatırım Holding A.Ş shares across Istanbul, Antalya, Samsun, Ankara, and Kahramanmaraş, on charges of 'establishing an organization for the purpose of committing crimes' and 'market fraud';
It is respectfully announced to the public that 7 suspects named Onur Yılmaz, Mehmet Yılmaz, Emre Kızılırmak, Erol Demir, Osman Özsoy, Suat Hamarat, and Sebahattin Azizağaoğlu are currently in prison as detainees; 12 suspects named Aref Ghafourı, Bedri Erdoğan, Cemal Çetinkaya, Furkan Koçak, Alper Atalay, İlker İlhan, Muhammet Erdoğan, Murat Ağcabağ, Murat Güler, Gökhan Gönül, Emrullah Şalk, and Akif Koç have been detained; and judicial proceedings regarding arrest, search, and seizure for 6 suspects are ongoing.”
