Breaking News: House arrest for Mahir Polat lifted
The house arrest order imposed on Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat has been lifted. The restriction on Polat, who was arrested as part of the "urban consensus" investigation and previously released under judicial control due to health issues, has ended.
The house arrest order issued for Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Deputy Secretary General Mahir Polat has been lifted.
Polat, who was detained as part of the "urban consensus" investigation conducted into the İBB, was arrested on March 23, 2025. Having undergone an angiography shortly before his arrest, Polat was transferred to the hospital twice during his time in prison due to health problems and most recently underwent another angiography.
Following public calls for his release, Polat was released on April 9, 2025, under judicial control in the form of house arrest.
With the decision taken today, the house arrest measure among the judicial control conditions imposed on Polat has been lifted.
