BREAKING NEWS... Hrant Dink case dismissed due to statute of limitations!

A verdict has been reached in the organization trial of Ogün Samast, the defendant in the murder of Agos Newspaper Editor-in-Chief Hrant Dink.

The court ruled to dismiss the case against defendant Ogün Samast due to the statute of limitations and ordered the continuation of the judicial control measure of a travel ban.

HE WAS RELEASED ON NOVEMBER 15

Ogün Samast, the triggerman in the Dink murder, was sentenced to aggravated life imprisonment by the Istanbul 2nd Juvenile High Criminal Court on July 25, 2011, for the crime of "premeditated murder" against Hrant Dink. Noting that Samast had completed his 16th year but had not yet completed his 17th year at the time of the incident, the court reduced his sentence by one-third to 21 years and 6 months.

The court also sentenced Samast to 2 years in prison and a judicial fine of 900 liras for "carrying an unlicensed weapon," which was reduced to 1 year and 4 months in prison and a judicial fine of 600 liras, taking into account his age at the time of the incident.

On the other hand, while in prison, Samast was sentenced to 5 years, 1 month, and 13 days in prison as part of a case opened by the Silivri 3rd Criminal Court of First Instance on the grounds that he had attacked prison guards.

Samast was released from the Bolu F-Type High-Security Closed Penal Institution on November 15 under conditional release.
