During a house search conducted as part of an operation targeting the Mersin Metropolitan Municipality, the recording and sharing of footage of a woman in her pajamas as she opened the door sparked reactions. AKP Group Deputy Chairperson Özlem Zengin announced that the Ministry of Interior has launched an investigation regarding the footage.
Stating that it is unacceptable for a woman to be recorded in her own home without her consent and for such footage to be shared, Zengin said she had discussed the matter with the Ministry of Justice.
If a woman's privacy is stolen in her own home in Mersin at a very early hour—regardless of the time—in the place where she feels most comfortable, and if she is recorded without her consent, even if it is not published, and if it is also published, this is a crime.
Zengin stated that the Ministry of Interior has launched an investigation into the law enforcement officers who recorded the footage, adding, "As a result of this investigation, those who recorded and shared the footage will certainly face sanctions."
Zengin also stated that the Ministry of Justice has issued a new circular following the incident. She noted that the circular contains regulations on how the process should be conducted in cases where women and families are parties or interveners in investigation processes.
