Breaking News: Istanbul Governor's Office sets deadline for municipalities regarding stray dogs!
In a letter sent to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IBB) and 39 district municipalities, Istanbul Governor Davut Gül requested that stray dogs be collected by the end of May. It was reported that legal proceedings will be initiated if the instruction is not followed.
The Istanbul Governor's Office has issued comprehensive instructions to municipalities regarding stray dogs. The letter, signed by Governor Davut Gül, was delivered to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and 39 district municipalities.
The letter pointed out that dogs roaming in packs in certain areas across the city pose a risk to public safety, and included the following statements:
"In some areas of our province, dogs roaming in packs pose a threat to the life and property safety of our citizens, and in incidents that are occasionally reflected in the national press, there are citizens who are injured as a result of attacks by stray dogs"
The Governor's Office letter stated that efforts to collect stray dogs are not progressing at a sufficient pace. It was also noted that despite the allocation of new areas to municipalities whose shelter capacities are full, the necessary construction has not yet begun.
"It has been observed that the activities for collecting dogs are progressing slowly, and that despite the allocation of land to municipalities whose shelter capacities are beginning to fill up for the purpose of building new natural habitats, construction activities have not been started" the letter claimed, and included the following statements:
"I request that the necessary actions be taken to accelerate the activities related to the responsibilities of local governments within the framework of the legislation, to bring the stray dog population in your districts under control by the end of May, and I inform you that criminal complaints will be filed with the Public Prosecutor's Offices against local governments that neglect their duties, and that legal proceedings will be initiated."
