Breaking News: Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu reacts to trustee appointments: 'The government has lost control'

While the repercussions of the arrest of CHP's Esenyurt Mayor Ahmet Özer and the appointment of a trustee in his place continue, a new wave of trustee appointments has come from the AKP government.

The Ministry of Interior has appointed trustees to the Mardin, Batman, and Halfeti municipalities, which were under DEM Party administration.

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu reacted to the trustee decision.

In a statement on his social media account, İmamoğlu said, "The government has lost control and is experiencing inconsistent and unserious swings."

Reminding that DEM Party's Ahmet Türk attended a peace dinner with Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz just a week ago, İmamoğlu said, "Ahmet Türk, who was reconciling families with the Vice President just a week ago, has become a terrorist this week."

The full text of İmamoğlu's statement is as follows:

"The government has lost control and is experiencing inconsistent and unserious swings. Ahmet Türk, who was reconciling families with the Vice President just a week ago, has become a terrorist this week.

In democracies, the continuity of the voter's will is essential. If an elected official is removed from office, they should be replaced by another elected official, meaning one of the council members. The authority to elect belongs solely to the voter and cannot be transferred. I am returning this evening from Cairo, where I came for the UN-Habitat meeting, and we are convening the Union of Municipalities of Turkey Executive Committee for an extraordinary meeting tomorrow."
