Breaking News: Mansur Yavaş reacts to the investigation launched against Ekrem İmamoğlu

Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu shared striking information during a highly anticipated press conference, naming the expert witness involved in the investigations conducted against himself and CHP-run municipalities.

In a post shared on his X account, Yavaş stated the following:

"As a legal professional, I followed the statements made by our Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor, Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu, regarding the 'expert witness' with deep sorrow on behalf of our country.

The law should not be applied according to individuals, but according to universal principles and rules. The law should be administered with an understanding based on merit, not on special appointments.

Any practice that deviates from these fundamental principles leads to the erosion of not only individual rights but also the social sense of justice. Launching an investigation against Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu after every statement he makes is a heavy blow not only to our democratic values but also to the foundation of freedom of expression. Criticism is not about targeting someone; on the contrary, it is an indispensable building block of a democratic society.

I would like to emphasize once again, in the strongest terms, that we will stand against any kind of lawlessness directed at Mr. Ekrem İmamoğlu and that we will continue to stand by justice."
