Breaking News: May 3 message from Bahçeli, the architect of the opening: 'There is a need for nationalism in every field...'

Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) Chairman Devlet Bahçeli issued a written statement on the occasion of May 3 Turkism Day.

In his statement, Bahçeli, who is the architect of the new opening process, included the following remarks: "There is no doubt that Turkey needs nationalism and a national orientation in every field."

The full text of the statement, which was shared on the MHP's official social media account with the note "The message published by our Chairman Devlet BAHÇELİ on the occasion of 'May 3 Nationalists' Day'," is as follows:

"81 years ago, a handful of brave people of the cause who made nationalism a flag in their hearts; while emerging as symbols of faith and will, they blossomed as a beacon of intellectual and active enlightenment that pierced the darkness.

By resisting torment, oppression, suffering, and hardship, they also became representatives of a tremendous spirit of struggle.

23 conscious Turkish nationalists, including our late leader Alparslan Türkeş Bey, opposed and stood against the scenarios of anti-national currents and minds with the possibilities and inspiration of history, culture, and national values.

As a natural and correct result of this moral stance, they rejected the spiral of pressure, imposition, and domination.

With their civil-natured, democratic-originated, and freedom-based calls, they played an important role in bringing nationalism to the public.

The torture inflicted on Turkish nationalists in half-square-meter coffins could not diminish their loyalty to the Turkish homeland and their love for the Turkish nation; on the contrary, it spurred them on, encouraged them, and strengthened them even more.

In the polarized society and ossified administrative structure of the 1940s, the noble names of nationalism, representing reason, justice, wisdom, and ideals, have certainly become a source of goals, excitement, and respect for subsequent generations.

It is observed that some political and ideological circles, whose purposes and intentions are quite morbid and equally harmful, continue to try to put nationalism in the same category as racism and to portray it in a standardizing, narrowing, and suffocating structure.

Seeing fascism and nationalism, or race and nation, as one and the same, and looking for opportunities to slander and disparage Turkish nationalism in this murky field, is, to put it mildly, ignorance and alienation from the root of the nation's soul.

Those who cannot admit the unifying, integrating, and complementary nature of nationalism, and those who cannot accept its dynamic and development-oriented aspect, are apostles of globalization with a cosmopolitan mentality who are extremely uncomfortable with national existence, national identity, and national value judgments.

Nationalism is the guide of the future, the unfading vision of the age we live in, the sole guarantee of the nation, the engine of economic development, and the encourager, guarantor, and supply axis of democracy and freedoms.

Nationalism, besides being a cherished collection of belonging to the nation and love for it poured into a thought mold, is a project of living together and brotherhood that prioritizes contemporary, modern, and human values, considers them important, and aims to bring them together with the horizon line of eternity.

There is no doubt that Turkey needs nationalism and a national orientation in every field.

Separating, dispersing, dividing, excluding, and alienating should be evaluated and understood as anomalies that are not in the dictionary of nationalism and as abnormalities contrary to the language of nationalism.

Turkish nationalism is a functional expression of the idea of living honorably and independently, and of having full sovereignty over our independence and future without intermediaries or connections by protecting our national identity.

There is no one who will be deceived by or give credence to the cheap and outlandish rhetoric of those who look for nationalism in slogans and trap it in simple templates and clichés; nor to their permitted, authorized, exploitative, and denialist bombastic memorizations.

The sense of moral responsibility that keeps the idea alive and keeps the honor of the idea vibrant is also a virtue of dignity and loyalty.

For those who are devoid of this virtue, comprehending and expressing May 3 with its essence is a disregard for reason, reasonableness, and logic; in other words, it is a vain ambition.

With these feelings and thoughts, on May 3 Nationalists' Day, which is a day of commemoration and remembrance, I commemorate with mercy, gratitude, and appreciation the late heroes of the May 3, 1944 events, our martyrs of the cause and ideals, and especially our late leader Alparslan Türkeş Bey.

I pray that God Almighty may be pleased with them all."
