Breaking News: New acting mayor appointed at Beşiktaş Municipality!
Following the arrest of Rıza Akpolat, the Beşiktaş Municipal Council convened today to elect an acting mayor. Ömer Rasim Şişman has been elected as the Acting Mayor of Beşiktaş Municipality.
Beşiktaş Mayor Rıza Akpolat, who was detained and subsequently arrested on January 17 as part of a 'tender corruption operation' targeting the Beşiktaş Municipality in Istanbul, has been suspended from his duties by a decision of the Ministry of Interior.
Following Akpolat's arrest and suspension, the Beşiktaş Municipal Council convened today at 14:00 to elect an acting mayor.
In the vote held, Ömer Rasim Şişman was elected as the Acting Mayor of Beşiktaş Municipality.

Şişman also currently serves as the CHP Group Secretary for the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB).
WHO IS ÖMER RASİM ŞİŞMAN?
He was born in Kahramanmaraş in 1991. He completed his primary and secondary education in Kahramanmaraş. He graduated with honors from Haliç University, Department of Political Science and International Relations. He completed his master's degree in Business Administration at the same university's Institute of Social Sciences.
Currently serving as the president of the Social Democracy Foundation (SODEV), Şişman has held various positions within the CHP for many years. Elected as a member of the Beşiktaş and İBB municipal councils from Beşiktaş in the March 31, 2024 local elections, Şişman also continues to serve as the CHP group secretary for the İBB council.
