Journalist Cengiz Erdinç, who was detained in Ayvalık, was referred to the Criminal Court of Peace with a request for judicial control. Erdinç was subsequently released by the court.
The Media and Law Studies Association (MLSA) announced that journalist Cengiz Erdinç, who was detained yesterday on allegations of committing the crime of 'publicly disseminating misleading information,' has been released under judicial control.
The statement made by MLSA included the following:
“Journalist Cengiz Erdinç, who was detained in Ayvalık yesterday, was released under judicial control this morning around 9:30 AM following his statement to the Ayvalık Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
Although the police knew his lawyers were on their way, a court-appointed lawyer (CMK) participated in the statement process. When Erdinç's own lawyers and the MLSA lawyer arrived at the prosecutor's office, they were not allowed inside on the grounds that the interrogation had already begun.”

REFERRED TO THE CRIMINAL COURT OF PEACE WITH A REQUEST FOR JUDICIAL CONTROL
It was learned that journalist Erdinç, who was detained yesterday, gave his statement to the Ayvalık Chief Public Prosecutor's Office at the Balıkesir Courthouse without his lawyers present. Following his statement, Erdinç was referred to the Criminal Court of Peace with a request for judicial control.
WILL SIGN IN ONCE A WEEK
Evaluating the prosecutor's request, the Criminal Court of Peace released Cengiz Erdinç under judicial control, imposing a travel ban and a requirement to sign in once a week.
WHAT HAPPENED?
On Wednesday, November 1, journalist Tolga Şardan was also detained due to his article titled "What is in the 'judiciary report' presented by the MIT to the Presidency?". Şardan, who was detained at his home in Ankara as part of the investigation, was arrested by the court to which he was referred on charges of "Publicly Disseminating Misleading Information."
