Breaking News... New operation at Bayrampaşa Municipality: 13 suspects detained

A new operation has been carried out as part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office into Bayrampaşa Municipality. Arrest and detention warrants were issued for 13 people within the scope of the investigation.

It was reported that 11 suspects were detained in simultaneous operations conducted in the morning hours, and efforts to apprehend the remaining 2 suspects are ongoing.

PROCEEDINGS INITIATED AGAINST 13 SUSPECTS

In accordance with the decision, teams from the Istanbul Provincial Police Department's Financial Crimes Investigation Branch were assigned to carry out the detention procedures for the 13 individuals. As part of the operation, search and seizure procedures were conducted at the suspects' residences and workplaces.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

In a statement issued by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was noted that the investigation is being conducted into Bayrampaşa Mayor Hasan Mutlu, as well as public officials working at the municipality and certain other individuals.

The statement indicated that, in line with new complainant and witness testimonies, suspect statements obtained under effective remorse provisions, identification procedures, and digital evidence regarding the crimes of embezzlement, extortion, bribery, and bid rigging, simultaneous arrest and detention orders were issued for 13 suspects on January 21, 2026.
