Breaking News: Operation at Ataşehir Municipality! Deputy Mayor and assistants detained

A new operation targeting municipalities has been carried out at Ataşehir Municipality. Within the scope of the operation conducted in the morning hours, 13 people, including Ataşehir Deputy Mayor Murat Güneş, were taken into custody.

Güneş's detention comes immediately after political developments at Ataşehir Municipality following the defection of 6 municipal council members, who were elected from the CHP list, to the AKP.

HE RECEIVED 22 VOTES IN THE DEPUTY MAYOR ELECTION

Following the arrest of Ataşehir Mayor Onursal Adıgüzel as part of an operation conducted approximately 6 months ago, a deputy mayoral election was held in the municipal council.

In the election on April 30, CHP's Murat Güneş was elected Deputy Mayor of Ataşehir with 22 votes, defeating his opponent by a margin of 8 votes.

BALANCES IN THE COUNCIL HAD SHIFTED

The defection of 6 municipal council members, who were elected from the CHP list, to the AKP at Ataşehir Municipality the other day had brought the political balances in the council back to the agenda.

In a statement made following the aforementioned defections, Murat Güneş had stated that they were monitoring the interventions against the will of the voters in Ataşehir.

Güneş had stated that the municipal administration was on duty, saying, “We are closely monitoring the interventions against the will of the voters in Ataşehir. The people of Ataşehir decide the future of Ataşehir. We are on duty with our 18 council members.”
