Selçuk Tengioğlu, who attacked CHP Chairman Özgür Özel as he was leaving the funeral ceremony held for Sırrı Süreyya Önder at the AKM, appeared before the judge for the first time today.
The trial was adjourned until August 7, and it was decided that Tengioğlu would remain in custody.
According to reports by Hilal Köylü, Tengioğlu stated in his defense in court, "I am still angry at Özgür Özel. I acted because of his speeches containing threats against soldiers and police."
Tengioğlu, who is being tried for "intentional injury due to the public duty performed by the person," faces up to 4.5 years in prison.
