The lawsuit filed against TÜSİAD President Orhan Turan and High Advisory Council (YİK) President Ömer Aras on charges of 'publicly disseminating misleading information in a chain' with a request for up to 5 years and 3 months in prison has been accepted.
THE TWO FIGURES WILL APPEAR BEFORE THE JUDGE AT THE CRIMINAL COURT OF FIRST INSTANCE
According to the report by Ekol TV reporter Dilek Yaman Demir, there were charges against Turan and Aras for 'Publicly Disseminating Misleading Information in a Chain' as well as 'Attempting to Influence a Fair Trial'.
The prosecutor's office prepared the indictment only for the charge of 'Publicly Disseminating Misleading Information in a Chain'.
Both individuals will appear before the judge at the Criminal Court of First Instance on May 20.
The investigation into Orhan Turan and Ömer Aras on charges of "attempting to influence a fair trial" is still ongoing.
WHAT HAPPENED?
The speeches made at the General Assembly Meeting of the Turkish Industry and Business Association (TÜSİAD) held on February 13 had become a major topic of discussion.
TÜSİAD President Orhan Turan reacted to the economic management by stating that the fight against inflation must be accelerated. Emphasizing the rule of law, Turan said, "If there is no trust in the law, distrust, uncertainty, and instability will spread everywhere. A systemic risk will emerge. Even if it is possible to save the day, the future will be in danger."
TÜSİAD High Advisory Council President Ömer Aras also made striking statements during TÜSİAD's presentation titled "Extraordinary events in political life". In his speech, Aras mentioned the arrest of Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ, the investigation launched against Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, the arrest of talent manager Ayşe Barım—who was under investigation for 'monopolization' allegations—in connection with the Gezi Park protests, the arrest of HALK TV Editor-in-Chief Suat Toktaş, and the young lieutenants dismissed from the army.
These remarks by the TÜSİAD executives drew reactions from the government front. After the pro-government media targeted TÜSİAD, AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also lashed out at TÜSİAD.

INVESTIGATION PROCESS
Following these developments, an investigation was launched against TÜSİAD President Orhan Turan, following TÜSİAD YİK President Ömer Aras, on charges of 'publicly disseminating misleading information' and 'influencing the judiciary'.
Turan was taken to the courthouse under police escort to give his statement. After Aras and Turan gave their statements, both were referred to the court.
The prosecutor's office requested a travel ban for the TÜSİAD President and the TÜSİAD YİK President.
An indictment was prepared as a result of the investigation conducted against Turan and Aras.
The prosecutor's office requested up to 5 years and 3 months in prison for both individuals on charges of "publicly disseminating misleading information through press and media".
