Breaking News: Statement from Ali Yerlikaya regarding the building collapse in Gebze
Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya has made a statement regarding the 5-story building that collapsed in Gebze.
A 5-story building located in the Güzeller neighborhood of Kocaeli's Gebze district collapsed in the morning hours. While it is estimated that there are 5 people in the rubble of the building, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya made a statement on the matter.
In a statement made on his X account, Yerlikaya noted the following:
"On 29.10.2025, at approximately 07:30, information was received that a building located in the Mevlana neighborhood of the Gebze district of Kocaeli province had collapsed on its own.
It is believed that 5 of our citizens are under the rubble of the building.
AFAD, Fire Department, Police, 112 Health, and NGO teams were immediately dispatched to the scene.
Search and rescue efforts are continuing under the coordination of the Governor and the Mayor.
Our Deputy Minister of Interior, our Deputy Head of AFAD, the General Manager of Disaster Response, and the Head of the Search and Rescue Department are arriving at the scene.
For the rescue efforts, 147 search and rescue personnel, including 80 from AFAD, along with NGO and municipal teams, have been assigned.
A total of 2 search and rescue dogs, 8 under-rubble search devices, 2 drones, and 52 vehicles are involved in the operations.
Our search and rescue efforts are continuing intensively. I convey my best wishes for a speedy recovery.
We will continue to provide information on developments."
