Breaking News: Statement on electricity price hikes from Alparslan Bayraktar
Following the 25 percent hike in electricity prices, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar stated that they are not considering any new electricity price increases.
At the beginning of April, electricity prices were increased by 25 percent for residential subscribers, 15 percent for public and private services, 10 percent for industry, and 12.4 percent for agricultural activities.
Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar made statements to journalists before the AKP Group Meeting.
Speaking about the electricity price hike, Bayraktar said the following:
"Before this price increase, our state was covering 60 percent of electricity bills. In other words, our citizens are currently paying far below the actual cost of electricity. Therefore, this is actually an adjustment in the amount of support provided.
We are still continuing our support; we have not yet reflected the full costs. We had provided support to citizens in need, and we had started to reflect the actual cost to subscribers above a certain consumption level—which accounts for three percent of subscribers—therefore, our support will continue for the remaining 40 million subscribers.
We do not have a new price hike plan; we will continue to cover it from the support budget."
