Breaking News: Statement on the earthquake from IMM Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan

Istanbul was shaken by a severe earthquake today. The tremor was felt strongly throughout the entire Marmara Region.

The Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) announced that the earthquake occurred at 12:49. The magnitude of the earthquake, which took place off the coast of Silivri in the Sea of Marmara, was measured at 6.2, and it was stated that it occurred at a depth of 13.1 kilometers.

The tremor was felt not only in Istanbul but also in surrounding provinces and the Aegean region.

Aftershocks continue in the region following the earthquake. According to initial findings, two more aftershocks with magnitudes of 4.9 and 4.4 occurred.

On the other hand, it was reported that another earthquake with a magnitude of 3.9 was recorded in the Sea of Marmara at 12:13.

Following the earthquake, which caused great panic, IMM Deputy Mayor Nuri Aslan made a statement at AKOM.

Regarding the earthquake, Aslan stated, "Our teams are in the field. We are working in coordination with the Governor's Office. As of now, we have directed our mobile toilets to the crowded areas where our citizens have gathered."

Aslan emphasized, "As of now, there is no situation to be alarmed about, but it is useful to be cautious."

Nuri Aslan continued as follows:

"Our 153 communication line is open. We are evaluating every report. Our fire department units are in the field, our Department of Municipal Police is in the field, and we are currently patrolling the locations we are in. Even if no reports come in, we are touring Istanbul. We will get through this process together. I warn all Istanbulites to be careful against false reports and posts on social media.

In all our inspections, there is no news of any injuries or deaths in Istanbul. This makes us very happy. We are not facing any building collapses. We are in the field with the resources of the IMM."
