Breaking News: Talent manager Ayşe Barım detained over 'Gezi Park' investigation!

Talent manager Ayşe Barım, founder and partner of ID Communication Consultancy, has been detained.

Barım was detained on charges of "attempting to overthrow the Republic of Turkey or to prevent it from performing its duties."

It was reported that searches were also conducted at Barım's home and workplace.

Barım is accused of being "one of the planners of the Gezi Park events."

The statement issued by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office is as follows:

"Regarding the series of actions known in the public eye as the 'Gezi Park' events, which aimed to prevent the 61st Government of the Republic of Turkey from performing its duties through the use of force and violence;

It is understood that the events referred to as the Orange Revolution in Georgia and Baltic countries, the Arab Spring in Arab countries, and the TAKSIM GEZI PARK in Turkey were carried out or encouraged through the Open Society Institute Assistance Foundation managed by GEORGE SOROS, that financial support was provided to the events, and that this wave, which started in Serbia, was exported to Arab countries and subsequently attempted to be exported to our country, particularly through virtual and social media,

In this direction, it is understood that this plan, which had been staged previously, was adapted to our country's social and ideological structure—unlike in other countries—due to the potential militant power of almost every ideology, especially left-wing terrorist organizations, present in the field in our country and their constant efforts to take action against the Government of the Republic of Turkey; therefore, the masses were pushed/invited to the streets using virtual and social media, and these events were turned into a focal point where the masses would unite and act toward a common goal. It is a known fact that the actions initiated under various pretexts were aimed at reaching dimensions that would enable the overthrow of the Government of the Republic of Turkey or prevent it from performing its duties by ensuring they received support from almost every segment of society. Due to the similarities in the logic of implementation between these activities and actions in foreign countries, it is understood that the Gezi uprising was organized by George SOROS and the domestic extensions of those targeting the same ideological goals.

According to the information in the investigation file numbered 2018/210299, which is being conducted by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office regarding the events and for which a public lawsuit has been filed;

Regarding the TAKSIM GEZI PARK uprising, the report dated 15.06.2013 by the Department of Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime stated that the so-called 'Civil Disobedience' method, known as the 'OCCUPY' movement and theorized by Gene Sharp, was used in the Gezi protests, and that the implementer of said movement was the group called OTPOR/CANVAS (Resistance). The organization named 'OTPOR', founded by Serbian-born İvan Maroviç, was effective in the uprisings and revolutions in Georgia and the Arab world where social media was used effectively. In this context, OTPOR leader İvan Maroviç was in our country between 18.06.2012 and 21.06.2012, and later, between 07.07.2012 and 15.07.2012, he met in Cairo, Egypt, with individuals who would later be at the forefront of the Gezi Park protests: Memet Ali Alabora, his wife Ayşe Pınar ALABORA (Öğün), Defne Anter, author Handan Meltem Arıkan, and advertiser Melin Osasogie Edomwonyi. It is understood that Mehmet Osman Kavala, a member of the Advisory Board of the Open Society Institute—which was founded worldwide by George Soros, whose name is mentioned in speculations and in relation to similar revolutions around the world, and which also operates in Turkey—was the organizer and financier of these events, directing the individuals mentioned. While these individuals were in Egypt, Mehmet Osman Kavala was in Belgium, Germany, the USA, and Germany again in very short succession. Upon his return to Turkey, rehearsals for the theater play titled 'Mi Minör' began, in which, in summary, AN UPRISING AGAINST THE PRESIDENT OF A REPRESENTATIVE COUNTRY WAS ENCOURAGED, and during this process, the individuals made statements on TV programs such as 'there is a possibility of a revolution via Twitter' and 'countries are being toppled with 140 characters.'

It was determined that during the Gezi events, Memet Ali Alabora made provocative posts on his Twitter account such as; 'THE ISSUE IS NOT JUST GEZI PARK, MY FRIEND, HAVE YOU STILL NOT UNDERSTOOD,' and that other individuals mentioned had similar posts. In the research conducted on the most used hashtags during the Gezi events, it was determined that the hashtag #occupygezi was started by Melin Osasogie Edomwonyi and received more than 500 thousand tweets on Twitter. Regarding the person who started the hashtag #DirenGeziParki, research showed that while the original creator could not be identified, the Twitter account @lauronay, named AliEthamAbdocnMehmet, shared it for the first time; this person also used the name Aylin Yılmaz Al Otoibi and had a Facebook account under this name. It was determined that 2,619,000 tweets were sent on the first day regarding the #DirenGeziParki hashtag, with a total of 7,285,000 tweets.

Regarding the suspect Emine Ayşe Barım, following the appearance of allegations in recent written and visual media that the suspect participated in the Gezi Park events, an ex officio investigation was launched by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office. As of the current stage reached as a result of both the aforementioned file and new research, in summary;

It is understood from the content of a recorded phone conversation between the suspect and Memet Ali Alabora—a fugitive defendant in the public lawsuit—that they exchanged ideas about publishing a declaration regarding artists within the scope of the Gezi events. In the ongoing conversation, it was concluded that the declaration, the content of which has not yet been determined at this stage, could harm them and should be published when the actions were taking place more actively,

There are findings regarding the suspect's intense communication with Mehmet Osman Kavala, Çiğdem Mater Utku, and Memet Ali Alabora, who are defendants in the aforementioned case, regarding the events,

In the analysis studies regarding the suspect, it is assessed that during the start date range of the Gezi Park events, she directed the artists affiliated with her company, ID Communication Consultancy, to participate in the Gezi Park events between 29/05/2013 and 02/06/2013, and there are also findings that she herself participated in the events along with the artists affiliated with her company,

When considered together, suspect Emine Ayşe Barım, who is understood to be one of the planners of the events like the other individuals mentioned above who were previously the subject of a public lawsuit, was apprehended and detained on 24/01/2025 within the scope of the detention order issued for the crime of Attempting to Overthrow the Government of the Republic of Turkey or Prevent it from Performing its Duties.

Search operations at the suspect's home and workplaces are ongoing. The investigation will continue in detail."
