The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), which has lost public credibility due to the data it releases, has announced the inflation figures for March.

The change in the CPI in March 2025 was an increase of 2.46 percent compared to the previous month, an increase of 10.06 percent compared to December of the previous year, an increase of 38.10 percent compared to the same month of the previous year, and an increase of 51.26 percent based on twelve-month averages.
FOOD AND NON-ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES IN CPI INCREASED BY 37.12 PERCENT ANNUALLY
The annual change rates for the three main expenditure groups with the highest weight in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) have been determined. As of March 2025, prices in food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 37.12 percent, in transportation by 21.59 percent, and in housing by 68.63 percent. The impact of these groups on annual inflation was calculated as 9.51 percent, 3.65 percent, and 9.47 percent, respectively.
MONTHLY INCREASE IN FOOD PRICES IS 4.94 PERCENT
The monthly change rates for the three expenditure groups with the highest weight in March were also announced. While prices in food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 4.94 percent, an increase of 0.25 percent was recorded in transportation and 2.10 percent in housing. The impact of these changes on monthly inflation was measured at 1.23 percent for food, 0.04 percent for transportation, and 0.33 percent for housing.
Prices rose in 113 of the 143 basic expenditure headings in the CPI index, while they fell in 25. There was no change in five basic expenditure items.
SPECIAL SCOPE CPI INCREASED BY 36.99 PERCENT ANNUALLY
The special scope CPI (B) indicator, calculated by excluding energy, unprocessed food, alcoholic beverages, tobacco, and gold, increased by 1.30 percent in March compared to the previous month. It showed an increase of 9.31 percent compared to December 2024 and 36.99 percent compared to the same period last year. The increase rate based on twelve-month averages was 50.56 percent.

A WIDE GAP REMAINS WITH ENAG
In March, consumer prices increased by 3.91 percent on a monthly basis and 75.20 percent on an annual basis according to ENAG.
