Breaking News: Written statement from DEM Party following visit to Erdoğan! What was discussed during the peace process meeting?

The DEM Party Imralı Delegation, consisting of Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar, visited AKP Chairman and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan yesterday (February 11) as part of the second peace process, referred to as a Turkey Without Terrorism.

The meeting, which took place at the Presidential Palace, was held behind closed doors. AKP Deputy Chairman Efkan Ala and MIT Undersecretary İbrahim Kalın were also present alongside Erdoğan.

The DEM Party Imralı Delegation issued a written statement regarding the meeting.

The statement included the following remarks:

“To the Press and the Public,

As the DEM Party Imralı Delegation, we held an important meeting with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. We consulted with President Erdoğan on developments in our region and the effects of these developments on Turkey and the Peace and Democratic Society Process.

During the meeting, the shared will to continue the process with determination was reaffirmed once again. It was stated that there is a need for the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM), relevant ministries, and public institutions to intensify their efforts to take concrete and confidence-building steps regarding the ongoing process. In this context, emphasis was placed on the necessity of preparing the report of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission with an inclusive approach and providing a solid foundation for democratization and freedoms. It was noted that it is important for the legal framework, which will encompass all segments of society and form the basis for Turkey’s democratic future, to be enacted without delay and with the broadest possible consensus.

We reiterate our belief that this meeting, held during a period of significant developments in global and regional politics, will contribute to the peaceful coexistence of the peoples of Turkey and the region, and we thank the President for receiving us.”
