Bribery operation at Başakşehir Land Registry Office: Many detained
17 suspects have been detained in an operation launched following allegations of irregular transactions in exchange for financial gain at the Başakşehir Land Registry Office.
The Küçükçekmece Chief Public Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation involving technical surveillance following allegations that transactions were being conducted in exchange for bribes at the Başakşehir Land Registry Office.
Examinations conducted within the scope of the investigation determined that irregular land registry transactions were being carried out at the Land Registry Office in exchange for financial gain.
It was determined that Land Registry Office staff obtained documents from the archives irregularly, and that real estate agents acting as intermediaries for the criminal acts delivered the money to the land registry staff through security and cleaning personnel at the office.
It was revealed that the suspects obtained approximately 1 million lira in illicit gains from the irregular land registry transactions in question.
In simultaneous operations centered in Istanbul and spanning İzmir, Bursa, and Şırnak, 17 suspects were apprehended, including 2 land registry directors, 2 deputy land registry directors, and 2 land registry clerks who were employed at the Başakşehir Land Registry Office at the time of the incidents.
Digital materials seized during the operation have been confiscated.
The suspects are expected to be referred to the Küçükçekmece Courthouse on Monday.
