'Bribery' scandal at Mersin Customs Administration: 91 people arrested!
In the scope of the 'Chain' operation conducted against customs employees in Mersin, 91 people were arrested. Among those arrested were 24 public officials, the Free Zone Customs Manager, and 67 customs brokers.
In the scope of an operation conducted against customs employees in Mersin, 91 people were arrested. It was learned that the Free Zone Customs Manager was among the 24 public officials. 67 of those arrested are customs brokers and brokerage employees.
The operation, codenamed 'Chain', was carried out by teams from the Provincial Police Department's Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch under the coordination of the Mersin Chief Public Prosecutor's Office.
Following the 114 suspects apprehended in the operation carried out on December 19, 8 more people were taken into custody.
10 of the suspects were released after their procedures at the police station, while 112 people brought to the courthouse were referred to the criminal judgeship of peace with a request for arrest.
By the judgeship, 24 customs officials, including the free zone customs manager and the deputy customs manager, and 67 customs brokers were arrested, while 21 people were released under judicial control conditions.
The 91 arrested individuals were sent to prison.
