British minister warns citizens about Turkey: 'Think twice before you go'

UK Health Secretary Wes Streeting has stated that discounted cosmetic surgeries in Turkey are dangerous and require regulation.

Wes Streeting noted that many women in the UK have died due to complications in recent years, urging people to research the risks and think twice before flying abroad for procedures.

Health Secretary Wes Streeting called on people to research the risks and think twice before flying abroad for procedures. The minister said he wants to work with the governments of other countries to improve safety.

Streeting said the following in his warning regarding Turkey:

"Turkey is the top destination for popular surgeries such as breast augmentation, tummy tucks, and butt and face lifts because it is cheaper. Seven out of ten foreign cosmetic operations for British patients are performed there.

However, horror stories are common, and many women have lost their lives in the UK in recent years due to complications.

There are particular concerns about the safety of the Brazilian butt lift operation. This operation is known as the most dangerous, yet its popularity continues to grow."

On the other hand, according to research by the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, half of those who go abroad for cosmetic surgery regret it.

"We need to take the issue of medical negligence and malpractice abroad very seriously," said Streeting. "If an offer looks too good to be true, I suspect it is too good to be true.

Think very carefully before flying abroad and paying a very low price, because you may have to pay the price for the consequences for years. Injuries can be life-changing.

Foreign cosmetic clinics send sales representatives to the UK to lure customers with attractive prices. However, medical regulations in other countries are often less stringent than those in the UK."

CALLED TURKEY TO A CRISIS MEETING

Stating that "patients need to understand the risks," BAAPS president Nora Nugent also announced that the Royal College of Surgeons has invited health ministers from the UK, Turkey, and Lithuania to a crisis meeting next month with the NHS and advertising authorities.

RCS vice president Prof. Vivien Lees said:

"Lives are being lost due to discounted surgeries abroad. Patients deserve better protection through stricter regulations and education."

She also stated that it costs the NHS an average of 9,328 pounds per patient to correct botched surgeries.

Sir Stephen Powis of the UK's National Health Service also said, "It is not fair that the NHS is forced to pick up the pieces of failed procedures."
