Brother of the individual who attacked Özgür Özel speaks out
The brother of the individual who attacked CHP Chairman Özgür Özel at the funeral ceremony for Sırrı Süreyya Önder has spoken.
CHP Chairman Özgür Özel was attacked following the funeral ceremony held at the AKM for the late Deputy Speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey and DEM Party Istanbul MP Sırrı Süreyya Önder.
The attacker, Selçuk Tengioğlu, was taken into custody. It was revealed that Tengioğlu had a criminal record for killing two of his children and injuring two others in 2004, as well as for threats and theft.
The Ministry of Interior announced that Tengioğlu was released on parole in 2020.
HIS BROTHER SPEAKS OUT
The attacker's brother, Davut Tengioğlu, spoke to Halk TV. Confirming his brother's murder conviction, Tengioğlu stated that the attacker has mental health issues.
Izmir representative Mustafa Akbaş reported the following from his conversation with Tengioğlu:
"Selçuk Tengioğlu's brother, Davut Tengioğlu, lives in Izmir. Davut Tengioğlu joined the Victory Party (Zafer Partisi) some time ago and had served as a bodyguard for Alparslan Türkeş. Davut Tengioğlu stated that he had not been in contact with his brother for many years. He confirmed reports that his brother had killed his children approximately 20 years ago and stated that he had spent 17 years in prison. The elder Tengioğlu stated that he has not seen his brother for years."
