New secure password policy for ATMs from the BRSA
The BRSA is banning the use of simple and predictable passwords at ATMs. With the regulation set to take effect next week, common passwords will be automatically invalidated. Secure passwords will be encouraged.
Implemented to take precautions against rising cases of theft and fraud, this regulation aims to encourage customers to use more secure passwords. The BRSA points out that simple password combinations can be easily guessed by malicious individuals and aims to put an end to the use of such passwords.
BANNED PASSWORD COMBINATIONS
According to the new regulation, common number combinations such as establishment dates, city license plate codes, team founding dates, and similar sequences will no longer be valid. If customers are using such passwords while performing transactions at an ATM, the system will automatically issue a password change warning and mandate the creation of a secure password.
STARTS NEXT WEEK
This new regulation, which will be implemented across Turkey, will be activated in the ATM systems of all banks starting next week. Customers will be guided to choose more complex and secure passwords.
