Brutality against cattle in Amasya: 5 detained

Following inspections at the facility, I.T., N.K., H.S., E.Ç., and A.A. were apprehended and taken into custody.

AMASYA GOVERNOR'S OFFICE: "JUDICIAL INVESTIGATION LAUNCHED"

In a statement made by the Amasya Governor's Office, it was stated: "There is a need to inform the public regarding the footage published on May 17, 2024, in some media outlets and social media accounts, which allegedly shows a head of cattle being tortured at a meat processing facility in our province.

Regarding the news in question, in line with the information provided by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, as a result of the research conducted on the subject, the suspects identified as having committed the act, I.T., N.K., H.S., E.Ç., and A.A., have been apprehended and the necessary judicial investigation has been initiated against them. Furthermore, the necessary administrative sanctions are being applied to the business and the suspects by our Provincial Directorate of Agriculture and Forestry and our Amasya Branch of Nature Conservation and National Parks in accordance with the relevant legislation. Respectfully announced to the public."

"WE ARE SORRY FOR THE INCIDENT"

Mehmet Akif Aydın, the lawyer for the company operating the facility, stated, "We are sorry for the incident. This is a business that has been operating for years. We have never encountered such a situation before. We will make a statement regarding how this incident occurred and developed. It is a sad incident that no one would want to happen."
Reminding that a worker lost his life 5 months ago as a result of a bull attack at the facility, Aydın said, "A work accident occurred here 3 or 4 months ago as well. A worker lost his life after an animal struck him. The legal process regarding that is ongoing.

We had completed the settlement with the family yesterday. But because such an incident occurred, we are currently holding it. Our workers' psychology has also been somewhat affected by that incident. In this incident, a momentary event occurred when the animal broke free from its chain and charged at the workers," he said.
