BTK responds to claims of e-signature data breach

The Information and Communication Technologies Authority (BTK) has denied claims that the data pool where e-signature users' passwords across the country are stored has been compromised.

Following previous reports of fake university diplomas and driver's licenses being obtained using e-signatures, a striking claim regarding the security of the BTK's data pool had recently surfaced. However, the BTK announced that these reports are baseless and intended to mislead the public.

CRIMINAL COMPLAINT AGAINST FAKE NEWS

In its statement regarding the allegations, the BTK announced that a criminal complaint has been filed against sources spreading false news of a data breach targeting e-signature users. The statement said, "Baseless posts have been made that have caused concern for over 2 million 500 thousand e-signature users. We inform the public that legal proceedings have been initiated regarding such posts and that a criminal complaint has been filed against the sources in question."

LEGAL PROCESS INITIATED

The statement continued by noting that the BTK took action as soon as the reports were published and began taking the necessary steps to refute the situation. "Such false reports not only damage public trust but also cast doubt on digital security practices in our country. We inform the public that legal proceedings have been initiated against the sources of the reports in question," it stated.
