Building collapses in Güngören! 2 more buildings evacuated

A collapse occurred during demolition work on a 6-story building on Marmara Street in the Haznedar neighborhood, which had been vacated and was being torn down; the building had been used as a business center on its first 3 floors and as residential units on the upper 3 floors.

Numerous police, fire, medical, and AFAD teams were dispatched to the area.

It was learned that the building had been vacated prior to the demolition and that security measures had been taken in the surrounding area.

It was stated that there was no one under the rubble.

The impact of the collapse caused damage to an adjacent 7-story building and a parked car. Residents were evacuated from the building, which suffered damage to some floors and had walls on its 3rd floor destroyed.

The residents of the 2 buildings, which were evacuated as a precaution, were placed in hotels. The residents were informed that they would be able to return to their homes if no risks are identified as a result of the ongoing assessments.

In the district's Mehmet Nesih Özmen neighborhood, a worker had previously died and another was injured following a partial collapse during a demolition. The search for the body of 59-year-old worker Zekeriya Yılmaz, who died in the incident on November 29, had taken a long time. Yılmaz was laid to rest in his hometown of Kastamonu.

F.Ö., who was on duty for the demolition work, and B.H., an official from the company carrying out the demolition, were taken into custody and arrested.
