Building constructed by Bodrum Municipality found to be 'illegal'

In Muğla, one of Turkey's leading tourism provinces, more than 128 thousand 600 illegal structures have been identified in all districts over the last 4 years, primarily in Bodrum, Marmaris, and Fethiye.

According to data from the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, in Bodrum, which ranks second in illegal construction in Muğla, the municipality itself has now been found to have built an illegal structure.

According to a report by Gazete Duvar, while the Muğla Provincial Directorate of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change sent a letter to the Bodrum Municipality to accelerate demolition procedures, it was revealed that the building constructed by the Bodrum Municipality in 2015 is illegal.

IT BECAME THE TÜRSAB REPRESENTATIVE OFFICE

It was learned that the building in question was constructed during the term of the then-Bodrum Mayor Mehmet Kocadon on land designated as a sports facility and park area located next to plot 1, block 932 in the Eskiçeşme neighborhood.

The area where the construction took place is designated as a park and sports area in the Bodrum Conservation-Oriented Revision and Supplementary Zoning Plan. Despite not being a 'deed area' in the plan, a building was constructed on this site. No documentation regarding a zoning amnesty for this building, which is in the 'illegal structure' status, has been found.

The building, which remained vacant for a long time, began to be used as the TÜRSAB Bodrum Representative Office in 2022. No statement was made by the Bodrum Municipality, which we contacted to obtain information regarding the current status of the building.

Mustafa Demir, President of the TÜRSAB Regional Representative Board, also stated in his remarks on the subject, "Unfortunately, I have no information about that matter."
