Butchers, who want the regulation changed to allow the sale of cut chicken meat, say that prices will drop by 30 percent.

REQUEST FOR AUTHORIZATION

According to the regulation, neighborhood butchers can sell chicken meat either whole or as cut and packaged in an integrated facility. Speaking to NTV, Fatih Tavukçu, a board member of the Istanbul Retail Butchers Chamber, said regarding the issue, "If we, as butcher tradesmen, can obtain this permit before Ramadan, we will not increase chicken meat prices by 20-30 percent, but rather offer a discount."

SALMONELLA BACTERIA RISK

Fatih Tavukçu stated, "When we take the whole chicken and cut it into breasts, thighs, and drumsticks, it will significantly lower our costs.

Our public will have access to cheaper chicken.

It would be of great benefit if all neighborhood tradesmen could compete with supermarkets."

In the current regulation, butchers are not allowed to cut chicken due to the risk of Salmonella bacteria.
