Cable car tragedy in Antalya: Statement from Muhittin Böcek regarding cable car maintenance!
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek stated following the cable car accident, "The protocol and agreement for heavy maintenance were already made after the new year. The season opening had begun on March 5. Our entire goal regarding this unfortunate incident is for our nearly 100 citizens to be rescued as soon as possible. We will carry out the necessary work on other matters."
Antalya Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Muhittin Böcek made a statement regarding the cable car accident that occurred in the city.
1 CITIZEN LOST THEIR LIFE, 10 PEOPLE INJURED
Böcek, speaking at the Antalya Coast Guard Command, stated that one citizen lost their life in the unfortunate accident and that the number of injured is 10, with 7 injured in the accident and 3 during the evacuation.
"So far, 74 of our citizens in 11 cabins have been rescued; there are nearly 100 citizens in 13 cabins," said Böcek, reporting that efforts are continuing rapidly.
Thanking all organizations involved in the crisis, Böcek said, "Hopefully, we will have rescued all our citizens by morning in a short time."
In response to a question from journalists, Böcek stated that the cable car began operations in 2017 during the term before his and has continued to serve under the municipal company.
Emphasizing that all annual heavy and routine maintenance had been performed, Böcek said, "The protocol and agreement for heavy maintenance were already made after the new year. The season opening had begun on March 5. Our entire goal regarding this unfortunate incident is for our nearly 100 citizens to be rescued as soon as possible. We will carry out the necessary work on other matters."
CHP Deputy Chairman Deniz Yavuzyılmaz stated that they arrived in the region with a delegation consisting of a Group Deputy Chairman, 2 deputy chairmen, and 10 members of parliament due to this painful incident.
Expressing that they are providing all necessary support on the ground for the rescue operation to be carried out effectively, Yavuzyılmaz said, "The main point we are currently focused on is the rescue of all our citizens."
Muğla Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Ahmet Aras said that as soon as they learned of the accident, they came to Antalya with 13 personnel and 4 search and rescue vehicles to support Böcek and his teams.
Aras noted that 4 vehicles and 12 search and rescue personnel from the Istanbul Fire Department, and 4 vehicles and 13 search and rescue personnel from the Ankara Fire Department also arrived in the city.
