Çağla Öz, wife of 'Vanlı Kara Haydar', also detained

The investigation into Mehmet Fatih Tançalan, known on social media as “Vanlı Kara Haydar” (Kara Haydar from Van), who was previously arrested, has expanded. Tançalan’s wife, social media influencer Çağla Öz, has also been detained as part of the investigation.

As part of the probe, authorities are investigating the couple's assets, their posts depicting a luxury lifestyle, and the source of the large amounts of gold, foreign currency, and cash displayed at their wedding in Van. It was stated that judicial authorities have requested a report from the Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) to examine the components of their assets.

Mehmet Fatih Tançalan had been arrested by the court following his detention as part of the investigation launched against him, on charges of “laundering assets derived from crime.”

INVESTIGATION FOLLOWING WEDDING FOOTAGE

Footage of the wedding held by Tançalan and Çağla Öz in Van on Sunday had become a trending topic on social media. The gold and other assets reported to have been gifted at the wedding have also become a subject of the investigation.

It was reported that the Van Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has also launched an investigation into Tançalan based on his social media posts, under Article 301 of the Turkish Penal Code (TCK), which regulates the crime of insulting the Turkish nation, the Republic of Turkey, and the state's institutions and organs. Tançalan, who is said to have a record of 25 incidents, was detained by police teams at his home in the Muradiye district.

According to allegations reflected in the investigation file, it is claimed that Tançalan frequently traveled to Dubai, generated income of unknown origin through the mail-order method, and maintained his luxury lifestyle with these earnings. It was learned that the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office wrote a warrant to MASAK requesting an asset investigation report be prepared regarding the suspect.

It was stated that Tançalan denied the accusations in his statement. Tançalan reportedly argued that the expenses for the wedding and engagement were covered by advertising and sponsorship deals made thanks to his and his wife Çağla Tançalan’s social media recognition.

Tançalan also reportedly claimed that the gold gifted at the wedding and engagement was “on loan,” that he could not afford to buy gold due to his financial situation, and that the jewelry was taken back by the jeweler afterward. Regarding the footage taken with police officers that went viral on social media, he claimed he had no intention to offend or insult public officials, and that the video was filmed and shared without his knowledge.
