Call for justice from Rojin Kabaiş's father: 'Autopsy results have not been released for 23 days'

Rojin Kabaiş (21), a first-year student in the Child Development Department at the Faculty of Education of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University (YYÜ), went out after dinner at her dormitory on September 27. When her friends could not reach her by phone, they reported her missing to the police the following day at noon. It was learned that Kabaiş had told her friends she was going to the shore of Lake Van to collect pebbles.

As a result of the search efforts, Rojin's mobile phone, headphones, a cake, and water were found on the shore on September 28. While the phone was taken for examination, it was determined that Kabaiş had told her mother, whom she spoke with, that she was going to the market to buy coffee, water, and cake. On the 18th day of the search operations initiated by AFAD, the Gendarmerie Coast Guard, Metropolitan Municipality fire crews, and police teams, Rojin's lifeless body was found by a citizen in the Mollakasım neighborhood of the Tuşba district, approximately 24 kilometers away from the Van YYÜ shore.

Rojin Kabaiş's funeral was held at the Yeniköy Asri Cemetery in the Bağlar district of her hometown, Diyarbakır, following the autopsy procedures at the Forensic Medicine Institute.

'WHOEVER COMMITTED THIS ATROCITY MUST BE BROUGHT TO LIGHT'

Rojin's father, Nizamettin Kabaiş, made a statement to journalists in front of the Diyarbakır Courthouse, saying that the autopsy results had not been released for 23 days and calling for the case to be followed closely. Kabaiş said, “My grief is immense. We have been waiting for the autopsy results for 23 days; we were told it would be announced within 15 days, but the results have still not arrived. Even though our lawyer spoke with the prosecutor, we have not received any information. There were signs of battery on my daughter's body; whoever committed this atrocity must be brought to light. I believe that the dormitory directors should be kept in custody until this incident is clarified.”

Kabaiş stated that intense security measures were taken around the dormitory on the day Rojin went missing, adding, "Divers, police, and helicopters conducted searches there. If they are calling it a suicide, that would be disrespectful to our state."
