Zafer Party Chairman Ümit Özdağ, in a statement made on his social media account, called for the establishment of rapid and strong coordination between institutions in response to the flood disaster in Istanbul.
Stating that time should not be wasted on political debates in disaster management, Özdağ expressed that AFAD, fire departments, health teams, municipalities, and security forces must work under a joint coordination.
Bringing up certain allegations regarding the Governor's Office's disaster coordination meeting, Özdağ requested that claims that the meeting could not be held be clarified.
Özdağ stated that if the meeting was held, the decisions and measures taken should be shared with the public.
Referring to the coordination debates that took place after the earthquakes centered in Kahramanmaraş and Hatay, Özdağ argued that similar mistakes should not be repeated. He stated that the capabilities and resources of the Turkish Armed Forces should be utilized in disaster response within the framework of existing legislation.
"ISTANBUL CANNOT BE LEFT TO ITS FATE"
Emphasizing that the rainy season is just beginning, Özdağ called for the inspection of risky areas, the preparation of evacuation plans, and the taking of necessary precautions before new rainfall begins.
Stating that allegations of negligence of duty should be investigated, Özdağ requested that legal and administrative measures, including the declaration of a disaster zone, be evaluated without delay. Using the phrase "Istanbul cannot be left to its fate" in his statement, Özdağ called on authorities to "Do not wait for instructions, take action."
