Calls for resignation for Ali Yerlikaya after TEKNOFEST post while Turkey debated murders

In just 24 hours, Turkey witnessed a sexual assault attempt by repeat offenders in Beyoğlu and chilling murders of women in Fatih.  It also saw a car thief in Avcılar crash into 5 vehicles and 2 motorcycles, injuring three people.

While these events sparked outrage on social media, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya's "TEKNOFEST" post on his social media account drew heavy criticism.

More than two thousand comments were written under the video post, which was shared with the hashtag "Turkey's Peace." Meanwhile, Yerlikaya's post received over 6 million views.

CALL FOR RESIGNATION FROM CHP

Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, who drew backlash for his post following the incidents, has been called to resign.

CHP Spokesperson Deniz Yücel stated on his X account, "I invite Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, who posted about 'Teknofest' while 2 women were brutally murdered in Istanbul, to resign immediately."

Yücel's post is as follows:

"Those who cannot ensure the safety of women at home, at work, on the streets, or in dormitories, those who make this country a dungeon for women while they are alive, are the ones who withdrew from the Istanbul Convention in a single night and who do not implement Law No. 6284 on the Prevention of Violence Against Women.

The increase in femicides and violence against women is no coincidence. It is a manifestation of a political preference and a political mindset.

After 22 years, the AKP has made this country unlivable for women with its policies of impunity and 'good conduct' sentence reductions. You will drown in your own mentality that demeans and despises women!

I invite Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, who posted about 'Teknofest' while 2 women were brutally murdered in Istanbul, to resign immediately. 

An Interior Minister who has nothing to do with the public's agenda while criminals harass women on the streets and brutally murder them is a disgrace to 21st-century Turkey."
